Department of ECONOMICS

Department of Economics was established in the year 1956 and has the distinction of  teaching the subject for the students of all streams. Economics is offered as a core subject for BA and as an open elective subject for B. Com and B. Sc. Year after year, the department has  been successfully producing quality conscious and bright youngsters who are stepping out as  enthusiastic citizens. The main goal of the department is to create a spirit of socio-economic  consciousness and ethical values among the present generation. Department Activities

The Department of Economics conducts industrial visits, seminars, lectures, elocution competition, collage competition, humanities fest, National handloom day and awareness talks such as eradicate corruption, significance of body language etc. The department also invites eminent speakers to deliver talks on current affairs in Economics. The department in collaboration with Mysore Education Society conducts Nobel Insight Lecture on Economic Sciences every year.

Department of HISTORY

The Department of History was established in the year 1957. It mainly flourished under the  leadership of Prof. Venkatakrishna Iyengar, Prof. Parimala, Prof. Sumithra, Prof. Sheshadhri, Prof.  Manjunath and Prof Dr. Ramanjaneya P. At present the Department is ably run by Smt. Maheshwari  N Kumar, Head of the Department. The Department of History is dedicated to help students  understand the present-day scenarios of the world through the tales of the past. With each session  covering different areas of history that altered with the future to come, we encourage students to learn  the dynamicity of the world around them. The curriculum is crafted carefully knitting information into  tales, trajectories, and theories. The aim is to expose students to the information that helps them trace  the causes and effects that have led to the world as we know it today.

The Department of History conducts visits to places with historical significance, heritage walks, seminars, lectures, humanities fest, and National handloom day. It also  association with Mythic Society, Bangalore and encourages the students towards gaining  practical exposure of the subject.

Department of JOURNALISM

The Journalism department was started in the 2005 to meet growing trends of flourishing media industry. Studying this course will help students to get wider perspective of the subject in different genres of media such as print, broadcast and online. The course provides students with hands on experience by sending the students to on field reporting, news reading, interviews, any political or social events, editing tools- software learning, content writing, research and many more.
Many students graduated from this course are working in different media houses like TV9, DD NEWS, Republic TV, Raj News, Digvijaya news channel, Photo Journalist, Camera crewman, Deccan Herald, The Hindu, advertisement sectors.

Department Activities

Department of physics

The department was established in the year 1969. At present there are 5 teaching faculty members who are qualified and committed to facilitate students to learn Physics and to develop their analytical thinking. Physics is offered as a core subject for B.Sc students and as an open elective for BA and B.COM students. There are three well-equipped exclusive Physics labs for all BSc students, 2 skilled support staff are involved in maintaining all the three laboratories. The faculty have held various positions such as IQAC Coordinator, MES Co-operative Society-Board of Directors and prominent portfolios such as Admission Committee Convenor, Examination Cell Convenor, Staff Secretary, Member-Library Committee, Time table Committee, Placement cell, Science Club, IT Cell and Member-IQAC and also members of BOS and BOE of BU, BCU and various other universities and autonomous institutions. Department is instrumental in conducting workshops to discuss blowup syllabus (NEP). Department Activities

Department of chemistry

The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1966. The department is endowed with well-qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty. At present, there are four teaching faculty, two skilled support staff. The department has two well-equipped labs and a research lab to cater to the needs of the students for their academic and for research activities. The department takes pride in its exceptional teaching, which is supported by the fact that many of its students taking up Chemistry programmes for their post-graduation and are actively engaged in research at prestigious universities. The main goal of the department is to kindle interest in students to take up chemistry research and to inculcate a scientific temper.

At present, the faculties are involved in two student-centric minor research projects. The department offers an add-on course in Chemistry. Students of this department take up internship programmes in various streams such as Forensic Science, Clinical nutrition, drug design and discovery, food microbiology and processing technology, food chemistry, and pharmaceutical chemistry offered by various institutions. The faculties are members of the Board of Studies and Board of Examiners for Bangalore City University and other Autonomous colleges.

Established in 1970, the Department of Botany has been dedicated for over five decades to advancing the study of plant sciences through field work, industry engagements and training centre visits. A strict curriculum is followed to provide students with a solid foundation in plant biology, ecology, and biotechnology, enhanced by practical experiences in laboratories and field. Students benefit from a terrace garden featuring about 110 plant species relevant to the syllabus as well as a collection of more than 350 bottled specimens, enriching their grasp of plant life cycle. Additionally, Department boasts a library stocked with over 450 books providing valuable resources for the students. The success of our alumni, who hold esteemed positions in academia, research and industry speaks to the enduring impact of the Department.

The Department of Electronics was established in 1988. The strength of the department lies in the team of highly motivated and qualified faculty.
The aim of the department is to provide the necessary theoretical background and practical experience in the subject of Electronics.
The spacious laboratory is well equipped with computers with various circuit simulation software for students. It provides personalized attention to the needs of every student. The number of students taking the subject of Electronics is around 50.

Post Graduate Department of Mathematics

  • The Post Graduate Department of Mathematics is established in the year 1987, formerly affiliated to Bangalore University is now under Bengaluru City University.
  • The department got upgraded as Research Centre in applied mathematics due to its active involvement in research in the year 2005.
  • The primary focus of this Centre is to inculcate research culture in students and faculty.
  • Till date 34 batches of students have been successfully completed the M.Sc. program from the department.
  • Seven students are conferred with Ph. D. from the research Centre.
    Presently three students are pursuing Ph. D.

Sports Activities play a vital role that can change a student’s life .The Department of Physical Education provides coaching in athletics and games for committed performers. Qualified coaches train students in athletics ,basketball, table tennis,badminton,chess and cricket.

  • Department facilities and activities: The Department of Physical Education has a well equipped sports room. A Separate table tennis room for both boys and girls, students can play chess and carrom in the college.
  • Outdoor facilities: The college has a badminton and basketball court which can be used for practising after the college hours, Other sports activities like kabaddi, VolleyBall, Throw ball, Net ball etc. are conducted in nearby grounds.
  • Multi Gym: Our college has a well equipped gym room. Students can utilise the gym facilities at different times,Boys can utilise in the morning session and girls can utilise in the evening from 3.30 to 5.30 pm.
    Sports representatives will be selected through election from each section. These secretaries help in conducting the sports events like intercollegiate, inter class, annual athletic meet during each academic year.
  • Activities conducted in the College: Department organises inter class sports events every year, for both indoor and outdoor games. Indoor games like table tennis, Shuttle Badminton, chess and carrom competitions for both boys and girls.Outdoor games like volleyball, cricket, Throw Ball, kabaddi and the most awaited annual athletic meet will also be conducted for both boys and girls.
  • Coaching for participating teams: The Department of Physical Education conducts selection trials for all group games like Cricket, Volleyball, Throw ball ,Net Ball ,Kabaddi as well as individual games like fencing, boxing ,wrestling, athletics etc for both boys and girls.Department organises practice matches for different events and send outstanding players for participation at university, National level, State level tournaments and to the coaching camps.
